"Microsoft Store doesn't accept Bitcoin
Applies to Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile
The company has updated its support pages to indicate that it no longer supports the cryptocurrency for purchases made in the Microsoft Windows Store. From now on, Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile purchases will have to be made using other payment methods, although Microsoft says current balances paid for with Bitcoin can still be used.
Does this mean that the Microsoft's "love affair" with Bitcoin is going to an end?
People have started to ask this question and tried to find what is the message "behind" that the software giant has wanted to send to the world. Since Microsoft has given no explanation for the decision, one can think that it is likely that Bitcoin's failure to hit the mainstream is to blame for Microsoft's announcement.
Others, more radicalists, can see a sign that the entirely "cryptocurrency business" is under the question mark as regarding its fiability.
Under the generated preasure of the community, Microsoft was forced to clarify its position towards Bitcoin as a payment method in Microsoft Store. Thus, on March 14th, a Microsoft spokesperson offered this clarification:
"We continue to support Bitcoin for adding money to your Microsoft Account which can be used for purchasing content in the Windows and Xbox stores.
We apologize for inaccurate information that was inadvertently posted to a Microsoft site, which is currently being corrected."
Still, there is a question that goes through our mind: has it been a mistake or Microsoft really plans to turn its back to Bitcoin and, for the moment, because of the reactions, they simply have changed their position?
The good news: it seems that the Microsoft's announcement has been an "OOOOOOPS!" and the company is supporting Bitcoin and will still do, at least on short and medium term.
